Did the Market Change on Liberation Day? New Strategy - Liberation NQ

Meaningful new market patterns do not appear every day, and when they do, it often takes time to recognize them with confidence. This week, we developed the Liberation NQ strategy to capture a specific pattern that appears to have emerged beginning April 10, 2025.
In our view, the market’s response to tariff-policy resolution began to take shape in early April 2025. On April 9, 2025, Nasdaq 100 futures traded through a massive range of more than 2,000 points. Since April 10, 2025, the market has shown a different character, with a consistent tendency to mean revert sharp range expansions, particularly during the afternoon session. That behavior is the foundation of this strategy.
The market has also displayed a more rangebound character during this period, rather than sustaining the type of directional follow-through often seen in stronger trending environments. In that kind of market, sharp moves can become overextended and then reverse back toward equilibrium. One possible explanation is that institutional option-selling activity may be helping reinforce these reversion tendencies, as dealers and larger participants respond to volatility and price extension in ways that can dampen follow-through and pull price back toward the middle of the range. Whether that dynamic continues or not, it has created conditions that this strategy is designed to exploit.
One of the most important observations is that this pattern does not appear to extend well into earlier history. In fact, prior to April 10, 2025, the strategy’s equity curve deteriorates quickly. That suggests this is not a long-established behavior, but rather a newer market regime that may be offering opportunity right now.
The strategy is intentionally simple. That does not guarantee durability, and we do not pretend to know how long the pattern will persist. It could stop working at any time. Markets may also shift back toward a stronger range-expansion environment, which would likely benefit many of our longer-term strategies instead. As always, our focus is not on prediction, but on risk management, diversification, and adapting to the market environment as it exists today.
I generally prefer strategies with 3 to 5 years of historical validation, but the strength and persistence of this pattern make Liberation NQ worth serious consideration.
